Awakening

2016 to Present

Awakening is a body of artwork that Sara Zimmerman is currently working on, starting from the end of 2016 to present. It encompasses the idea of coming into realization of what is illusion versus reality, the layers that shape our lives, creator- versus victim-hood, and what she wants to express to the world. This series particularly depicts layers upon layers, signifying how each person has a life layered with experiences. Some experiences are beautiful on their own; some are ugly. Yet, no life is simple, and therefore is a woven experience that works together. Additionally, no life is perfect. Therefore some of the pieces in Sara’s Awakening series are done on rough canvases, or raw, un-stretched canvases, symbolizing that it’s up to us as creators to make something beautiful out of what we’ve got, even if it is far from perfect.
