Typos vs Timidness

artist comics and comics for students about self expression

“To err is human; to forgive, divine.” ~ Alexander Pope

Being afraid to make mistakes can keep us locked in a state of inaction. Worrying about a typo, incorrect grammar, or improper punctuation can prevent us from ever exploring our voice or taking any chances to step beyond our routine. So what is better? Never taking a chance in fear of making a few mistakes or taking the leap, knowing that perhaps you may stumble, but that intention alone is a fuel for greatness?

I make mistakes and yes, some people like to let me know about the typos and incorrect grammar that riddle my newsletters, posts and other creations. So the question becomes: should I worry about that and allow that concern to stop me from being as prolific as I am? Or should I be ok that I wrote it, reviewed it, missed that boo-boo, and just hope to catch the next one?

I have a lot of people mention to me that they “should” blog or “want to write” but keep putting it off. So, what are you waiting for? Being perfect? Set aside 30 minutes and pour out your heart and just make mistakes. Then, when you go back and clean it up, you can aim for perfection, if you want, but settle for it being 70% perfect, not 100%. More often than not, your 70% equates to other people’s 300%. And the fact that you are getting your voice out there versus bottling it up may just make a bigger impact than one itsy-bitsy typo.
