Autumn Checklist for Businesses

Summer is a great time to enjoy the beautiful weather and visit with family and friends. However, once Labor Day hits and the crowds recede, don’t let that relaxed summer mood bleed into your productive business time. Autumn provides many business owners some much-needed downtime to start working on projects that were put on hold during busy seasons.

List of Marketing Items for Fall

Marketing items to do for fall for small business owners

One of the best ways to get back on track after an extended period of distraction from business is to:

  1. take a good look at the calendar and mark it with important upcoming dates
  2. create a list of to-dos

The calendar will provide you a list of upcoming dates holidays that you may want to focus on for future campaigns or in-store sales. Some of these may include Back-to-school, Halloween, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

A list will help you prioritize what you want to do, then compare it against what you can afford to budget time-wise and financially. Projects like these might include:

  • monthly email newsletter
  • direct mail piece announcing a sale
  • hosting an event or a Chamber of Commerce mixer
  • advertisements in print and online advertising holiday sales
  • scheduling to attend events to network
  • offering a buy 5 get one free promotion
  • selling gift certificates for the holidays
  • get your name out in local gift guides and publications
  • annual website updates
  • plan holiday cards and gifts for employees and customers
  • get holiday gift wrapping options in place
  • holiday parties
  • start planning holiday gift baskets
  • sponsoring any local community and/or charity events for the holidays

These are just a few of the many things to start thinking about during the fall. Start by making your list of what you want to get done, then allocate time on the calendar during the autumn slow season to actually complete those items. If you need help or ideas, always feel free to contact me.
