Facebook has recently announced that their new timeline format is now available for business and fan pages. The timeline format is currently available either as a public change or as a trial stage (trial stage is only available through March 30, 2012; after that all pages will be changed to this new format).
The timeline format provides a new way to display your posts and events grouped along a timeline versus the pervious list-style. This format allows you to show your posts and events in a more coherent chronological order as well as allows you to make some fun changes.
One such change is the large 851 x 315 pixel image that you can post as your header to show off your business. But beware: images used in this new area have some strict cover image regulations from Facebook including that none of your header images can have the following:
- Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
- Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s about section.
- References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
- Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”
There are more ways to customize your new Facebook fan page, including changing your profile image, organizing your views and apps, star/hide/pin posts so they show for 7 days and more.
If you have a Facebook fan page, please note that after March 30, 2012, your layout will change to the new timeline format. Until then, you can have a temporary page to sample how your new page will look.
